The Golden Gate Bridge completed its shift to all-electronic tolling last week, and officials from the bridge district have reported that most drivers were able to transition smoothly.
District officials reported that a few drivers caused backups at the toll plaza when they realized they were in the “FasTrak Only” lanes. Drivers were reportedly stopping their vehicles and driving in reverse on the bridge. Officials also reported a handful of drivers were speeding through the toll plaza at an excess of the newly posted 25 m.p.h. speed limit.
The district has kept staff members adjacent to the toll plaza to help motorists understand the new process. The district has also utilized a loud-speaker system to broadcast to drivers in the toll plaza. Approximately 40 drivers were reportedly spoken to by staff during the first two days of all-electronic tolling.
