The Novato Police Department will be providing service at the 30th annual Art Wine & Music Festival on June 8-9.

The department will have the Teen Driver Safety vehicle on display both Saturday and Sunday, Lt. Jennifer Welch said.

“The Teen Driver Safety Program promotes education and research showing which behaviors contribute to teen-related crashes,” Welch said. “Inexperience and immaturity combined with speed, drinking and driving, not wearing seat belts, distracted driving (cellphone use, loud music, other teen passengers, etc.), drowsy driving, nighttime driving, and other drug use aggravate this problem.”

Officers will be available to answer any questions about the program and the NPD Teen Driver vehicle.

The NPD also wants to remind the community of a few regulations for the festive weekend:

•There are no pets allowed at the festival (except service animals)

•No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed in the festival

•Those consuming alcohol are to stay within the festival

•There is no smoking allowed

•There will be several road closures around the downtown area. Grant Avenue will not be accessible from Redwood Boulevard to Seventh Street

•Posted “no parking” signs will be strictly enforced

Additionally, several officers will be walking the festival keeping an eye out for overly intoxicated attendees, minors in possession of alcohol and ensuring the overall safety of festival attendees. In years past there have been few incidents requiring police attention. Those attending the festival are reminded to enjoy beverages safely, drink plenty of water and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.
